WoW is the Official Magazine of the Athletic Union. It is your one stop shop for all updates and everything that has been going on in student sport.
Once upon a time (May 2003 to be exact), during Radha Balani’s reign as AU President, Loughborough University launched its very own sports magazine, called “Loughborough Sport”. The quarterly magazine contained 32 pages full of the latest sporting news, club updates, the low down on new sports facilities and features on hockey, swimming, cricket and athletics. Produced by the University’s Sports Development Centre (SDC) and Loughborough Students’ athletic union (AU).
The magazine was kick started by sport fundraiser Lisa Farmer, and cost £1 with all pro ts going towards joint SDC and AU ventures. Written by former AU president Radha Balani, former LSU Marketing and Promotions assistant manager Tim Benford, former Label magazine sports editor Ally McDonald, and the University’s former sports marketing manager Guy Jackson.
Over the years it changed, renamed Walk on Water, reduced in size, became free and was published monthly. Published until June 2012 when it discontinued, the magazine brought Loughborough students updates on everything from unveiling new kit and the University stadium, to insights on AU clubs. Just like the original issues, we will be covering all the latest sports news on campus, as well as supplying information on how you can get involved in the wide range of sport opportunities available at Loughborough. However, we’re looking to introduce lots more content in the new issues. You can expect articles on what the AU are doing in the community, more unveils, exclusives with coaches, players and much more! We need you too! Interested in improving your writing skills? We’re looking for budding writers to join us in collecting information and writing articles. You will gain valuable experience and can take on only as much as you want, so there’s no pressure.
That’s not all, we are opening up a regular competition to have a photo published on the double sided spread in each issue. We’re looking for everything and anything AU or Loughborough Sport, so if you’ve got a photo you want to share or are interested in becoming a writer then email us.
